R-CPD – Inability to Burp – “No-Burp” Syndrome
Inability to burp, or Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (R-CPD), is a condition in which the cricopharyngeal muscle fails to relax properly, preventing accumulated air in the stomach and esophagus from being released. This can cause significant discomfort and directly impact quality of life.
Common symptoms include persistent bloating, pressure in the chest or neck, involuntary throat noises (“gurgling”), difficulty burping, and episodes of abdominal distension after eating or drinking.
